Sophia Bush gives back to the planet by rescuing pit bulls and supporting Global Green USAEco News Network presents our favorite eco-celeb of the week. We love seeing what celebrities are up to, and that doesn’t mean when it comes to movies, television or music albums, but with how they’re giving back to the planet. This week, actress Sophia Bush caught our eye. In addition to her popular role as Brooke Davis “One Tree Hill,” Bush loves the planet and its creatures. Check out how she protects Mother Earth.

Sophia Bush is a stunning woman and actress who isn’t afraid to speak her mind or stand up for what she believes in, which demonstrates a few of the reasons her fans adore her. Another reason probably is the love she shows Mother Nature.

Let’s start with Sophia’s puppy love, and no I don’t mean her former relationships with Chad Michael Murray and Austin Nichols. I actually mean her love of dogs!

In June 2012, the actress rescued a seven-week old blue pit bull, and boy is he cute. Before the pup, named Griffin, could be euthanized alongside his family, Bush scooped him up at the Wags and Walks animal shelter.

“I can’t encourage people enough, please don’t buy animals. Please, please adopt,” she said. “I think it’s ridiculous to support over-breeding, puppy mills, cruelty in any avenue – when there are thousands of dogs a day getting put down because no one wants them. And rescue dogs are always nicer than purebred dogs, anyway.”

This isn’t the first time Sophia has adopted dogs. She also has two other rescue pit bulls, Penny and Patch, at home. She sure does have a big heart!

In addition to animal activism, she also supports the environment by eating very little to no meat at all. While appearing on “The Craig Ferguson Show” in 2011, she revealed she was reading Alicia Silverstone’s book, “The Kind Diet” and said, “I don’t eat a lot of it any more but a little… I’m sure that in this transition eventually I won’t eat any meat at all.”

Hopefully, she’ still practicing her mostly plant-based lifestyle.

Last, but not least, Sophia recently stepped out at Global Green USA’s 2013 Pre-Oscar party wearing a beautiful recycled organic outfit from H&M’s new eco-collection, Conscious. The clothing brand sponsored the event, and all of its green efforts.

“For many years Global Green has been setting a shining example of what it means to be a conscientious consumer and citizen,” Sophia said. “To have H&M joining us in this fight, and helping to remind the world that chic and sustainable are in fact one-in-the-same, is such an exciting development! What an amazing opportunity we all have to be better to our ecosystems and communities every day.”

I can’t wait to see what Sophia does next in support of our planet.
